PregiSMS: SMS Monitoring Gateway

The PregiSMS SMS Monitoring Gateway is an SMS-based network monitoring, remote network management and remote control system system that exploits the low-cost and widely used communications medium in the Philippines -- SMS or Txt Messaging as specifically applied in network operations. PregiSMS Gateway is an in-house developed system which is implemented in Unix and uses Gnokii, Postgresql, Perl scripts, PHP among others to function primarily as an sms-based monitoring tool for the PREGINET-NOC. One of the most obvious benefits of using this technology is that is it is independent to our IP network. Since, it uses wireless technology (i.e., using external GSM network operators), communications will not be affected even if all the physical wired-links are down, making it an alternative and reliable network operations tool.

 
   

SMS Gateway Setup

The PregiSMS Network Monitoring gateway was internally developed under a Unix platform using Gnokii SMS module, PostgreSQL database, Perl, PHP, Procmail, Fetchmail, Apache, among others. Using a stand-alone Nokia 6150 cellphone, this SMS gateway runs automatically to perform several functions. The following shows the current status of the cellular phone (Nokia 6150) functioning as the SMS Gateway.
